I compiled a huge collection of photographs. I was drawn to deteriorating subway stations, old or abandoned buildings, and cracked or crumbling pavement, city fixtures and utilities in all stages of neglect, decay, repair or reconstruction. I began to highlight the relevance and beauty of decline.
My drawings are digital. They are narrative fantasies filled with symbols and/or inhabited by creatures which occur spontaneously. What may be left as disparate pieces are then woven together by more considered symbols, creatures, or graphic technique. My current influences are Cubism and artists like Red Grooms. I have an art background in multiple media: Painting, realism and non-representation; Drawing, architectural and from life; Clay, both sculptural and functional; Graphic arts, from paste-up and mechanicals by hand to computer publishing, and graphic design. |
